All of Anchorage Yoga's classes are intelligently infused by the movement and styles studied and practiced by our amazing teachers. Classes are ongoing, offered on a "drop-in" basis unless otherwise noted. If you are not sure which classes match your needs, please contact us -- we're available and happy to answer any questions and make suggestions on what class level and style might work best for you.
We encourage you to explore all the different class styles. We are confident that you will find classes that inspire, challenge and feel good to you!
Our offerings range from classes that focus on longer-held poses exploring healthy alignment (such as Bikram, Deep Stretch, and Basics) to more flowing styles (like Hot Flow and Power Flow) which encourage the innate wisdom of the body to lead the way as you link breath and movement.
If you are dealing with any health conditions or injuries, we always recommend exploring our more alignment-focused classes before venturing into flowing-style classes, so that you can learn which modifications will help keep your practice safe and enjoyable.
Bikram
All levels. Bikram Yoga is a challenging series of 26 poses and 2 breathing exercise practiced in a heated room. The heat allows your body to stretch more deeply and safely, increase circulation to facilitate the body’s natural ability to heal, and helps detoxify the body. This series is designed so that each posture stretches and strengthens specific muscles, ligaments and joints needed for the next posture. It systematically stimulates the organs, glands and nervous system and moves freshly oxygenated blood to 100% of the body. (105°)
Traditional Hot Yoga (THY)
All Levels. Using the template of Bikram Yoga, THY encourages the exploration of other postures and the benefits they provide to our practice.
Hot Flow
All levels. Our Signature Class! Hot Flow is a vigorous vinyasa style practice that combines elements of Bikram, Anusara, Kundalini and Ashtanga Yoga. This "perfect" combination of balancing, strengthening, energizing and deep stretching poses will electrify the body and mind. From head to toe your body will feel invigorated and detoxified while you sharpen your mental focus and renew your spirit. Be prepared to SWEAT! (95°)
Warm Flow
All levels.
This cooler version of our hot flow class focuses on alignment and mindfulness. Therapeutic in nature, you will learn techniques to help you gain flexibility, and strength while moving at a perfectly slower pace allowing for ample time to enjoy each pose. 85 degrees (85°)
Radiant Flow
Intermediate Level. Radiant Flow is a vinyasa inspired class that challenges your ability to let go of everything you think you know about yoga and test your ability to "go with the flow". Perfect for the dancer or athlete in you, each class is a newly choreographed, creative sequence of poses linked together with the breath. Due to the spontaneous nature of vinyasa and it’s continuous movement of energy, students are asked to work intelligently and within their limitations. This class will heal, detoxify, and electrify the body and mind at their deepest levels. (85°)
Yoga Sculpt
All Levels. Yoga Sculpt is a total body workout designed to tone and sculpt every major muscle group. Free weights serve as your own personal adjuster as you move through sun salutations and other yoga postures, enabling extra length and depth in each pose. This intense, but easy to follow class complements your regular yoga practice while pushing your strength and flexibility to new heights. A fun way to mix up your Yoga practice! (85°)
Deep Stretch
All levels. Deep Stretch is different from most traditional classes in that we don't explore as many standing postures. Remaining close to the floor allows you to penetrate deep beneath the surface of your body. Through slow deep stretching you can unlock and release enormous amounts of tension in the body. This class focus on relaxing into the realm of your hips and shoulders and is often supported by the use of blocks and straps. (80°)
Yoga Basics
The perfect place to start! Yoga Basics is designed to introduce beginners or experienced students to the basics of vinyasa flow. In this class you will begin to build the foundation for your yoga practice and receive individualized attention as you gain flexibility, strength, and balance. In each class you will explore alignment for both advanced and modified yoga poses. Experience asana sequences including standing, seated, backbends, sun salutations, and explore the relationship of movement and breath. (80°)
Kundalini
All levels. Kundalini Yoga focuses on awakening the living energy that rests dormant in the base of the spine through specific breathing, movements, stretching, meditation and chanting; all in precise sequence. A typical Kundalini yoga class will start and end with the most beautiful and ancient chants which open and calm the heart. Then we proceed with a carefully planned sequence of postures, movements and breathing exercises that bring about quick and powerful transformation on all levels.
Meditation
All levels. Meditation is one of the most natural and rewarding of all human activities. It gives direct, intuitive experience of higher realities, and is the cornerstone of true spirituality. It also helps create balance and cultivate inner peace. Meditation may produce profound results on all levels of your being—physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Come connect you with your own inner powers of vitality, clarity, and love! (75°)
Karma
All levels. Our Karma classes are our way of giving back to the community. These yoga classes are just $7*, so no classes are removed from your class package when you check in, rather they are paid for separately. Our intention is to offer these classes at a discount to those who might need it. Namaste. * To save time and money purchase a 5 or 10 class pass and the price per class lowers to just $5! Kids Yoga
(3-5 year olds) Kids Yoga is a fun-filled yoga experience specifically designed for kids. In our fun environment, children play in yoga by imitating animals and nature, and by using creative expression, games, music, and storytelling. Classes will help develop physical strength and flexibility, concentration, focus and attention, inner strength and body awareness, confidence and self-esteem, relaxation and self-control, and a feeling of well-being and respect for others. Anchorage Yoga offers classes for 6-12 year olds and teens on special occasions, i.e. in-service days, holidays, spring break etc… and we are hoping to add more. Stay tuned!
Silent Bikram
Intermediate Level. Turn inward, listen to your breath, make your class a moving meditation, and explore a group practice a whole new way. Our silent classes move through the Bikram Yoga series to sacred music without dialogue from the teacher. Best for students who have taken a minimum of ten Bikram Yoga classes. Offered on the third Saturday of the Month.
